Cambridge Building Society Raises £1,900 for Local Hospice

06.07.2008

In April this year, all branches of the Cambridge Building Society offered small toy bears and Easter bunnies for sale, with all proceeds going to the Arthur Rank Hospice located in Romsey, Cambridge. The bears and bunnies proved very popular with customers, and £1,300 was raised for the Mill Road charity.

Laura Billinge, from the Society's Mill Road branch, said:

"We are very pleased that the soft toys sold so well, and I would like to thank
our customers for their continued support this year."

Also, on Sunday 21st May, two of the Society's staff members, Alison Wright and Janice Brown, took part in a 50 mile sponsored bike ride to raise money for the Arthur Rank Hospice. In wet and windy conditions the cyclists set off from Bottisham Village College on a four and a half hour ride around the surrounding villages and open fenland, and raised £600 for the charity.

Janice Brown, from the Society's Cherry Hinton Village branch, said:

"Alison and I are both absolutely delighted to raise the fantastic sum of £600 for such a worthwhile cause. This was achieved thanks to family, friends, work colleagues and customers of the Cherry Hinton Village branch."

Anna Crofts, Community Fundraiser for the Arthur Rank Hospice, said:

"We are so grateful to the whole team at Cambridge Building Society, and all their customers and clients for their wonderful contributions. Their support will make a huge difference here at our local adult hospice, and will provide care and support to our patients and their loved ones at a very difficult time.

"The funds that they have raised through our Easter Appeal and Family Bike Ride will help fund our vital Day Therapy service, which aims to provide physical and emotional support. We receive no statutory funding for this vital service and rely on the support of our local community to raise the £300,000 it costs each year."
