Society duo make Marathon efforts

26.04.2007

Two members of staff from Cambridge Building Society are recovering after completing their first London Marathon on Sunday.

Intranet Administrator Simon Bullen, 28 and HR Manager Margaret Bracewell, 30 exchanged their suits for trainers to prepare for the 26.2 mile run that took place on 22nd April. Their year-long training plan started last March, when they decided that they wanted to take part in the 2007 Marathon despite never having seriously 'run' before. Since then, they have not only completed a half Marathon; they've persuaded friends and colleagues to join them in their early morning 5 mile training sessions and 20 mile weekend runs.

Cambridge Building Society joined their friends and families to help them exceed their £2650 joint target, through a variety of activities including an auction, competitions and a dress down day. Funds raised will go to The Outward Bound Trust and The Meningitis Trust.

Simon Bullen commented:

"We are really excited to have completed the London Marathon and are very grateful to our friends, colleagues and customers at Cambridge Building Society for all the support we've received.

"It was hard work but a great experience, and a great opportunity to raise money for our chosen charites. This achievement is something we have been working towards for over a year and all that training really paid off."
