The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Youth Games PLUS is the largest, and only, youth disability sports festival held in the county each Summer. This year the event will take place on Friday 15th June at the St Ivo Indoor and Outdoor Centres in St Ives, and this year over 400 children from all 12 special schools in the county will be involved.

Living Sport is a partnership of everyone involved in a sport across the county. Their aim is to get more people active and playing sport and ensure that everyone who wants to achieve in sport is fully supported.

The Youth Games PLUS is aimed at young people with a range of disabilities. For many, the Games are their first and only opportunity to compete at a countywide event. They can currently compete in 6 sports, as well as a minimum of 4 'taster' sports.

Sponsors of the Youth Games PLUS make a real difference to the lives of hundreds of disabled young people, parents and their carers in the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough area.

This year the Cambridge Building Society is putting its support firmly behind the Youth Games PLUS, by sponsoring the school teams from the Huntingdon District. The sponsorship has funded around 90 students taking part in two teams, one from Spring Common Special School in Huntingdon, and one from Samuel Pepys Special School in Eynesbury.

Events Officer for Living Sport, Lorna Watkins, said: "The aim of the event is to show that sport can be enjoyed by everyone regardless of ability, with a positive focus on what's possible rather than what's not possible to achieve. We are delighted that the Cambridge Building Society is helping local children with disabilities to get involved in sport with generous financial help."

Our sponsorship and support will contribute towards:

  • helping to offer these young people a real experience of sport and sporting competition
  • enabling them to celebrate their abilities and their successes
  • giving them the opportunity to learn new skills and to increase their self-confidence
  • showing a commitment to some of the most disadvantaged within our communities
  • giving them a day of real fun and enjoyment!
