Society staff support the Magical Moonlight Walk

16.07.2008

As the clock struck 9pm on Friday 11th July, over 550 walkers set off on a six mile trip around Cambridge to raise money for two youth charities. Despite the heavy rain the walk attracted over 150 more entrants than last year, including over 50 staff from Cambridge Building Society.

The second Magical Moonlight Walk started and finished in the private grounds of Anstey Hall in Trumpington. Walkers took in some fascinating historical sights, previously walked by a host of famous people, from Charles I to Stephen Fry. On their return they were greeted with bacon rolls and a celebratory fire works display.

Led by their Chief Executive, Stephen Mitcham, Cambridge Building Society staff brave the British weather and prepare to embark on the 6 mile walk.

From sponsorship handed in on the night, initial estimates indicate the amount raised should match last year's fundraising total of £18,000. The money will be split between two local charities, Teenage Cancer Trust & Q103 Kidz

Teenage Cancer Trust builds special wards for teenagers with cancer. The money raised will be used to help build the East of England's first unit at Addenbrooke's Hospital.

Q103 Kidz helps support local groups working with children and young adults up to the age of 21 who suffer the effects of poverty, abuse, neglect, homelessness, violence, crime, illness and disability.
